2000 was a good year for Dag Griffiths (Wings). In May he won the Eddie Conway Cup (S & F Individual Competition for the third time in 4 years). In June he won the 28th Grand Final of Channel 4's 'Fifteen to One', having also appeared in the previous one in April. He is pictured left receiving his trophy, a pyxis from 4th century BC Athens, from Laura Calland. He had more succcess on 'The People Versus' (see below). His 15 to 1 run finally came to an end in October. |
The successful Cohorts team - from l to r Sheila Tickle, Ray Oakes, Bill Hawkins and Molly West - were the first ever winners of the BBC1 TV quiz Syndicate. We were very saddened to hear of the sudden death of Bill Hawkins the weekend before the final week of transmission. The two Legion teams provided a trophy in Bill's memory to be presented each season to the highest scoring male player in league matches. |

Dag Griffiths (Wings) secured a place on the last show of the first series of ITV's 'People Versus' by defeating a contestant with the question 'In the 1981 Headingley Test, how many Australian wickets did Botham take?' (Answer given 6, correct answer 7). He then successfully answered 3 questions on Olympic Games venues, won £15,000 and retained his seat on the show. |
David Radcliffe (ex Lords) gave an assured performance in winning £2,620 on a Teachers' Special edition of 'The Weakest Link' on Friday 7th September 2001. No stranger to the small screen, David will be playing for Wings Wanderers in the 2001-2002 season |
