2000/2001 was Wings best season ever to date. They finished undefeated as the Division One Champions and also reached the semi-final of the MQL Challenge Cup. Tom Farley also won the Eddie Conway Cup and along with Dag Griffiths was a member of the Southport & Formby team that won the President's Trophy. Pictured left (l to r) are Maurice Wright, Dag Griffiths and Tom Farley receiving the Division One trophy ffrom MQL President Peter Richardson. |

Wings made up for the disappointment of losing their league title by beating Zetland in the 2002 Don Standing Cup Final. This was the club's first success in this competition. Pictured (l to r) with Vice-Chair Wendy Cunningham are Dag Griffiths, Maurice Wright, Keith Mulhearn and Tom Farley |

Wings crowned the 2001/2002 season by winning the prestigious W.B. Feeny Cup (contested by the top 3 teams in division 1 of each of MQL's leagues) - Pictured (l to r) are Dag Griffiths, Keith Mulhearn and Tom Farley receiving their awards from MQL President Peter Deakin. The success story continued in the 2002/2003 season when the Division One Championship was regained and the Don Standing Cup retained. |

In 2005 Wings again were Division One Runners-up and retained the Don Standing Cup for the fourth season in a row. In
2006 Wings regained the Division One title with a 100% record - only
the second team to do so. However their 4 year reign as Don Standing
Cup holders came to an end when they were defeated by Valentinos.
They reached the final of the Merseyside Challenge Cup for the first
time in their history but went down to Old Dog (Ormskirk). A sad day when the Wings Club closed in September 2007, the end of an era. The quiz team re-located to the other end of Windsor Road, The London. The change of venue had no ill effect on domestic form as Wings retained the league title and regained the Don Standing Cup. |

| Tom Farley Previously played for Victoria Sports with whom he won the Division 1 title twice. Since joining Wings he helped the team secure the Division 1 runners-up spot in 3 consecutive seasons before finally winning the championship. Has won both the Southport & Formby individual competition (three times) and the MQL MIMIR trophy (twice). He has twice appeared on Radio 4's Brain of Britain, being runner-up in the final on the second occasion. In 2000 he won his game of 15 to 1 and narrowly missed out on a place in the Grand Final. Tom holds the League record for the highest individual score in a match, 33 points. |

| Keith Mulhearn A long standing member of the Wings team, schoolteacher Keith is now into his second century of quizzing. Originally hailing from Kirkby, he started his quiz career with Knowsley Sports Club in the Northern League. He is the only one of the current squad not to have appeared on C4's 15 to 1! However he did guest once for Wings Wanderers on BBC Radio Merseyside's 'Merseyquiz'. A keen gardener, he also enjoys pub quizzes particularly at the Imperial, noted for its hot dogs. On a catering note, he has always ensured that Wings have always set the highest standard in post match refreshments. |

| Maurice
Wright A true Sandgrounder and quiz fanatic who has been a winner twice on 15 to 1. Maurice joined the team from Victoria Sports under the 'Bosman Ruling'. He is known variously as being an Evertonian, a gannet (always has the last sandwich at quizzes) and a beer/wine connoisseur ('I'll drink anything, me!'). As a nurseryman and keen 'organic' gardener, his knowledge of scientific names from the plant world comes in useful as does his encyclopaedic knowledge of pop music and the natural world. He develops a nervous twitch whenever Debbie Harry's name is mentioned. |

| Dag
Griffiths The team's latest acquisition having transferred from Wings Wanderers for whom he played from1984, having been spotted making a guest appearance for Knowsley Sports Club in a 1983 Merseyside Cup Tie. He has twice appeared on Radio 4's Brain of Britain and was narrowly defeated in a 'Countdown' final. He seems to be a perennial finalist in the S&F Individual Competition and has won it a record equalling five times. In June 2000 he won the 28th Grand Final of 15 to 1, having also appeared in the previous Grand Final. In 2004 and in 2006 he managed to wrest the Bill Hawkins Trophy (highest male scorer) from Ray Oakes (Condottieri). He retained the trophy in 2007 and 2008. |
