2000/2001 was Wings best season ever to date. They finished undefeated as the Division One Champions and also reached the semi-final of the MQL Challenge Cup. Tom Farley also won the Eddie Conway Cup and along with Dag Griffiths was a member of the Southport & Formby team that won the President's Trophy. A sad day when the Wings Club closed in September 2007, the end of an era. The quiz team re-located to the other end of Windsor Road, The London. The change of venue had no ill effect on domestic form as Wings retained the league title and regained the Don Standing Cup. Both major domestic trophies were also won in 2009. In 2013 the London closed and the team transferred to the Mason's Arms. In September 2018 Wings moved to the Bold Arms in Churchtown. In 2010 Wings had to be content with runners-up spot in Division One but retained the Don Standing Cup. In 2011 the situation was reversed, winning the league and settling for runners-up in the Don Standing Cup. In 2011 Wings reached the final of the Merseyside Challenge Cup for a second time but once again lost to Old Dog (Ormskirk). 2012 was 'the year of the bridesmaids' - the team were runners-up in four competitions. However in 2013 they bounced back, winning the League and Cup double. 2014 was Wings most successful season to date retaining the Division 1 title and winning three cup trophies all for the first time: Maurice Jefferies Plate, Handicap Cup and the Merseyside Challenge Cup (at the third time of asking - beating Oxton Conservatives in the final), They retained the league trophy the next four years. In 2018 they won the treble of Division One, Don Standing Cup and MQL Plate and in 2019 the domestic treble of Division One and both cups.Success continued either side of the COVID interruption with two more Division One titles, two Handicap League titles, three Don Standing Cups, Two Handicap Cups. In 2023 they won MQL's W.B.Feeny Cup for the second time. |

Keith
Mulhearn A long standing member of the Wings team, retired schoolteacher Keith is now into his second century of quizzing. Originally hailing from Kirkby, he started his quiz career with Knowsley Sports Club in the Northern League. He is the only one of the current squad not to have appeared on C4's 15 to 1! However he did guest once for Wings Wanderers on BBC Radio Merseyside's 'Merseyquiz'. A keen gardener, he also enjoys pub quizzes particularly at the Imperial, noted for its hot dogs. On a catering note, he has always ensured that Wings have always set the highest standard in post match refreshments. |

Maurice
Wright A true Sandgrounder and quiz fanatic who has been a winner twice on 15 to 1. Maurice joined the team from Victoria Sports under the 'Bosman Ruling'. He is known variously as being an Evertonian, a gannet (always has the last sandwich at quizzes) and a beer/wine connoisseur ('I'll drink anything, me!'). As a nurseryman and keen 'organic' gardener, his knowledge of scientific names from the plant world comes in useful as does his encyclopaedic knowledge of pop music and the natural world. He develops a nervous twitch whenever Debbie Harry's name is mentioned. |

He seems to be a perennial finalist in the S&F Individual Competition and has won it a record eleven times. In June 2000 he won the 28th Grand Final of 15 to 1, having also appeared in the previous Grand Final. In 2004 and in 2006 he managed to wrest the Bill Hawkins Trophy (highest male scorer) from Ray Oakes (Condottieri). He retained the trophy in all seasons from 2007-2018 andnhas since won it three more times. In 2010 he also won the MQL MIMIR trophy for the first time and has since won it again in 2016 and 2023.
