| Ann Evans - Ann has been playing in a quiz league since the early 1970's. Alongside her brother, Bill Thomas, she originally played for the Aintree Conservative Club and later AC Meadows. She is one of four current members of the MP's, to have worked in the teaching profession. |
| Daniel Evans - Dan currently works in the Civil Service, and is the son of Ann. He used to regularly watch the team play before becoming a regular player himself. |
| Dave Harrhy - Dave has been playing in a quiz league since 1988, when he was asked by Tony Evans to join his team. Dave and Tony taught at the same school in Croxeth Liverpool and a friendship was surely inevitable with both being Welshmen and very keen followers of Welsh Rugby. |
| Sara Gaskill - Sara works in the Nusing profession, and like Dan has become a regular for the MP's during the past few years. As the daughter of Ann and sister of Dan, she helped achieved the rare feat of all four members of the same family playing in a quiz match during the 2006 season. |
| Tony Cushing - Tony worked for many years in British Telecom. Alongside the other Tony in the squad, he is one of the two survivors to have played in the first Punchbowl match and still be involved in the team today as scorer for the home matches. He is the longest serving member of the team. |
| Rick Catton - A primary schhoolteacher in a local school, he joined MPs in the 2009-2010 season |
| Question Person Frances Cushing - Frances is the wife of Tony Cushing. She used to be a teacher in the same school as Ann and has been our question person for many years. |
| The
late Tony Evans - Tony first began playing
in a quiz league in 1985 when he set up the Punchbowl team, who played in the
Northern division uuntil his untimely death from leukaemia in September 2009.
His determination to overcome his illness was inspirational. The number of mourners,
who assembled at St Cuthbert's Church and Southport Crematorium on Tuesday 6th
October was testimony to the affection in which he was held. He will be greatly missed by his friends in the Quiz League. Tony began quizzing in 1986 with a new team in the Northern League at the Punch Bowl in Sefton. The team later moved to the Hightown Club, before transferring to the Southport and Formby League. A change of venue led to a change of name, Berkeley and a subsequent move to the Mount Pleasant produced the MPs. All teams enjoyed success within the leagues. In 1990 Tony's wife Ann joined the team and later their son and daughter, Dan and Sara, created on occasions a unique family team. Tony, together with Ann, was an active member of the League Committee and we are particularly grateful for his efforts in running our individual competition and for setting questions for the Merseyside Challenge Cup. Tony was an accomplished artist and taught the subject up until his retirement in 2005. His last teaching post was at Croxteth Community Comprehensive School where he was head of department. The school was closed on the day of the funeral because of the number of colleagues who wished to attend. In retirement Tony taught part-time at Beechenhurst Prep School, a complete contrast but where again he was very happy. His good humour, warm personality and willingness to assist will be greatly missed. |
